MOGWAI Burningposted on 07/28/2010
One of my fave post rock bands of all time and good buds Mogwai have a new movie out-'Burning' This 45 minute live montage of 3 back to back epic shows in Brooklyn last year, was directed by Vincent Moon of La Blogotheque fame, so you know what to expect. Shit is heavy and shot in BW. Order copies and tickets to the USA Premieres at Mogwai's Site.

Here's my attempt at the poster contest for the premieres. It had no chance of winning but it made me miss doing graphic design.:(

knee deep and jugglingposted on 07/08/2010
Been knee deep in a couple of photo projects lately and focussing my efforts entirely on those while trying to juggle the usuals. Iglomat is working on our next record as we speak, World Cup is almost over :( and ATX bike polo is stillgoing off. I shall be escaping the Texas heat for some short summer trips and will keep you posted to my whereabouts for picture making. I've started a little Tumblr Page with film scans and out takes for your viewing pleasure or delete button. Cheers and Viva Espana!

Hats off to Chester Moody Anderson, who was honoured by the Austin Film Society last night, for his outstanding help in Texas film making over the last last 3 decades. The ghetto will not be televi$edposted on 06/11/2010
The World Cup kicked off today in Johannesburg South Africa and what a good match to kick it off. As much as I enjoy the world cup and having spent some time in Jo'burg, I sincerely hope some of the billions generated from this global showpiece, goes back into the slums, where tens of thousands of people faced eviction to make way for World Cup Hotels and Stadiums. What will happen after the trophy is lifted, the caravans move on, and the dogs stop barking…will there still be no drinking water? The Antidote

The oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico is still flowing and one of the worst in history. The magnitude of its long term the environmental side effects will be sorely felt for generations. Here's hoping it doesn't wash ashore in counties like Galveston, who have had enough damage in recent years via Hurricane Ike. Even if the oil stays offshore, there is still the risk of not just oil, but dispersants contaminating sea life and fisheries therefore contaminating humans. Nice one BP!

One Roll, One frame, One night only-Tonight!posted on 05/07/2010
My local photo lab- Holland Photo here in Austin, is having a customer show/open night tonight from 6.30-8.30pm. They gave each customer a roll of BW film to make a print for one night only. Fun concept! After shooting a whole roll of carefully though out images, I had one frame left to burn, and there you have it. Cats always win. Come to the show tonight if you can, there will be refreshments and a tour of the film lab and darkrooms!

I started work on new project last week on wild animals in urban developments within the Austin City Limits. Isn't it ironic and sad that only a few days later our yee haw republican, gun-toting Governor Dick Perry, shot a coyote while out jogging, as he 'feared' for his labrador. What a load of rubbish. I'll be eligible to vote here pretty soon and at least have a voice against morons like this in office.

4x5=awesomeposted on 04/29/2010
I just entered the world of 4x5 large format photography and It's really blowing my mind lately. I feel like such a dumbass for not getting there sooner after shooting 35mm and medium format forever. I should be wearing a T-Shirt that says "I wasn't born into large format, but I got there as soon as I could!" Sure, it's costly for film and the set up times are ludicrous sometimes, but at the end of the day there's no comparison.

Thanks to Fly PR and my trusty team who nailed it on the victorian set. look out for the Batusis record on Smog Veil Records this month (Vinyl Only!). Here's one of Syl hamming it up.

We started shooting stills for the documentary 'The Grove', for the fab non-profit multimedia, Polka Works. The Grove is an 1860's historic ghost town in North Central Texas, bought out and preserved in 1972 (my birth year!) by an old fella named Moody Anderson. After 38 years, Moody is hanging it up and auctioningoff the town's entire contents on April 23-25th. You oughta go! The documentary itself is set to be released by the end of the year. I had no idea what I was in for and was lucky enough to also participate in the event, returning partially unscathed (rolled my ankle in a spectacular chest slide bombing a downhill -camera round my neck, untouched!). One of my top 3 favourite bands of all time has to be Baltimore's Lungfish. When people go on about owning the entire Beatles anthology, I'm sure I go on about my Lungfish albums in the same way. Lungfish cosmic front man and legendary tattoo artist Daniel Higgs played a rare solo show a couple of weeks ago here in Austin. It was on a Saturday afternoon to around 100 people, in a church and It's congregation not knowing what to expect from the cryptic legend. Here's a small video I shot from the occasion and a still shot below. Enjoy. PublicRadio also made this fascinating documentary on the band. Well worth a listen.

People have being questioned and detained for harmlessly legal documentation in public places. Here's a couple of incidents worth watching from the Guardian and Nick Turpin. So If you shoot street photography, I'd recommend printing out your rights, beacuse if you can see it, you can shoot it.

Dig Magazine Coverposted on 06/30/2009
There must be a theme here with people using architecture as art, cramming themselves into crannies (previous post) and haling themselves off buildings on bikes here. I scored my 2nd cover this month, this time with the new DIG BMX and a shot of Tennessee mentalist Mickey Marshall, getting loose on Austin's infamous curved walls. I need another for the hat trick!

Just been back to do some more photographing in Galveston lately. There's a big clean up going on, which is nice to see some progress, finally! I've been collecting slides and polaroids throughout this project, either washed up on the shores or in piles of trash. Some really chilling water-damaged finds, that I'm incorporating as an installation when I get a show going soon.

The new Giant Haystacks* and Young Offenders split LP is now available. The cover photo was taken on a fine summers day in my hometown swing park that I used to frequent as a wee boy. Seconds after shooting this, I was a approached by a swaggering 8 year old hard nut who spitted "Are you fae the Social (security) mister? I mean, why else would people shoot photos of this bombsite?

Don't worry, the record doesn't sounds as depressing as it looks. *not to be confused by the Real Giant Haystacks

It wasn't easy editing hundreds of negatives, in an attempt to encapsulate the ongoing struggle of Galveston County's disaster, that has been swept under the carpet since September of last year. Aid is still trickling in, but not quick enough, with FEMA taking some heavy criticism. If you can donate anything, please go here It's never too late. SXSW interactive film festival is going off right now and here's one of our local filmmakers Karen Skloss for her movie documentary SUNSHINE Showing this week.

'It all starts with getting knocked up. An unplanned pregnancy for an unplanned girl sets off SUNSHINE, a playful, yet ultimately stirring self-portrait of an adopted woman driven to search for answers through reconnection with her biological mother. Woven together from over 10 years of super 8 and video home movies, intimate family interviews, shimmering dance sequences and stylized reenactments, SUNSHINE offers a refreshingly rare glimpse on the current day transformations taking place within our most sacred of institutions.'

Some 6000 evacuees were shipped to The Austin convention center while the storm blew over, aided by FEMA and The Red Cross. More than 1,300 who remained in local shelters were still focused on concrete matters: filling out forms from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, applying for new birth records, food stamps and Social Security cards, connecting with relatives. Here is a gallery of some photos I shot at the shelter one afternoon. Thanks to The Austin Chronicle and FEMA for the permission to document.

I was just at the Fort Hood Military base in Killeen, Texas, to shoot The Sesame Street experience for Military families. It was a hoot. I think I was just as excited to see Elmo and co just as much as a kids. Thanks to the Sesame Street workshop and the USO for the great gig. LOL.

This weeks cover of the Austin Chronicle, and main feature on Austin's latin musical ensemble Grupo Fantasma.

Since the paper's big insert this week is on the ROT Biker Rally and Gay Pride Festival all at once, the art department's vision was to spoof it up! I think we pulled it in the 100o heat with 10 dudes to co-ordinate!
I've uploaded some new stuff to my people section from the ROT Shoots, as well as a bunch of new action shots if you have a coffee break and want to nosey around.

The latest issue of Polar Inertia Magazine just came out with a kooky photo feature of mine, Humerous Church signs of North America. And you thought the Church didn't have sense of humour?

The Iglomat record finally hit the stores and itunes on June 2nd via Kfm Records . Here's a wee review from Record Collector Four Star review! Congrats to Davie Jack from Iglomat who just had a wee boy- James!
Did anyone see Roky Erickson or a loose Stormtrooper recently in Austin?

It's been a busy month of April. I'm usually on the road right about now to escape the heat but we have barely used our air cons so far. Less UV rays have kept me in town with a ton of Austin Based editorial work. I have a feature in this issue of Mooncruise Photography and Fashion Magazine on my ongoing project 'Thatched Youth'.

My musicial project IGLOMAT also scored the music to the Mooncruise site! IGLOMAT has another new interview in Lattitude Magazine Our S/T CD's official release is June 2nd on KFM Records..plug plug..
That's about it for now, I'm off to rest before I ride my bike 100 miles this Saturday in the 2008 Shiner GASP!

The first is on the art site-The Last People about my photography and the second on BMXunion about my Bike Riding. Happy April fools! -
IGLOMAT cd availableposted on 03/27/2008

Early bird copies of my band IGLOMAT's debut CD are available now, in the USA through Terrible One and in the UK from our label KFM Records. This a full length transatlantic music project with my good buddies across the pond Scott MacDonald and David Jack. The record took 3 years of fine tuning and twidling with the artwork also being a trans collaboration between Nigel Peake and myself. Here's some choice reviews in Clashmusic, The Austinist and the 'Austin Chronicle'We also have interview on Defgrip. Enjoy!

SXSWposted on 03/15/2008
Hello from the aftermath of a week long rollercoaster that is SXSW. It's been a super busy month here in Austin with Film and Music going at it full tilt, during which I shot a ton of editorial content for the Austin Chronicle and promo for NYC's Mirrorball. One of my live shots of London Rapper Dizzee Rascal made the Cover of the Chronicle Daily!

I swapped out some new live images on my site if you feel like checking them out as well.
